Product Certification
Product certification involves type testing of products to the requirements set out in the Scheme standards and documents, plus an assessment of the manufacturing processes, called factory production control (FPC).
The factory production control assessment confirms that the procedures meet the requirements of the Scheme and that they are being implemented and maintained. Additionally the materials, manufacturing processes and staff training are reviewed to make sure that the product has not changed and is being manufactured in a consistent way.
MCS Certified Product Mark
Manufacturers or distributors who have a current valid MCS certificate may use the following mark on their products, advertisements and literature to show that they are part of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
Certificate Number MCS "XXX"
"Description of the Technology certificated"
‘XXX' is the certificate number and the logo of the certification body issuing the certification is placed in the right hand box.
Scheme documents and requirements
These documents set out the requirements for product certification for each technology. They refer to other published standards and requirements. Click on the appropriate document to review and download it. Please note that equipment such as inverters or charge controllers do not require seperate certification under MCS but do need to meet G83 requirements (where applicable).
- Product Certification Scheme Requirements - Solar Collectors - MCS 004
- Product Certification Requirements - Solar Photovoltaic Panels - MCS 005.
- Product Certification Scheme Requirements - Micro and Small Wind Turbines - MCS 006
- Product Certification Scheme Requirements - Heat Pumps - MCS 007
- Product Certification Scheme Requirements - Biomass - MCS 008
- Product Certification Scheme Requirements - Micro CHP - MCS 014
- MCS 011 - Testing and Acceptance Criteria (this document sets out the criteria we will use for testing and test reports when evaluating applications).
Please note that MCS 006 - Micro and small wind turbines references the BWEA Small Wind Turbine Performance and Safety Standard (29 Feb 2008)
Factory Production Control Assessment
This documentation sets out the requirements of the factory production control assessment. Please download this document and ensure that you have a documented management system which meets the requirements of this document before you accept a factory assessment.
