About MCS

MCS is a mark of quality and demonstrates
compliance to industry standards that companies
strive to meet. It highlights to consumers that
companies are able to consistently install or
manufacture to the highest quality every time.

Following the communication regarding the impact of the Regulations for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), and after listening to feedback from the industry, the scheme would like to provide some further information and updates about the Installation Fee increase and purchase of additional credits.

Installation Credit CAP and Evidence Required

The scheme recognises the RHI Regulations coming into force on the 20th September 2017 has created an unplanned pressure/deadline to register heat technologies in advance of this date to enable MCS certification to be provided alongside RHI applications. Following feedback from the industry and in order to facilitate installations being registered as quickly as possible, the scheme will be:

  • Raising the credit purchasing CAP to a minimum of 10 credits for all MCS Contractors (or keeping it at the original cap level if already 10 or more credits)
  • MCS Contractors can continue to apply for additional installation fee credits above their individual credit CAP
  • If additional credits are required to register the heat technology installations with MCS, provided that MCS Contractors submit appropriate evidence (see below*) of this with their request to the MCS Administrator by email these requests.
    MCS Contractors can contact the MCS Helpdesk by phone between the hours of 9am to 5pm. The helpdesk will review evidence and respond to emails during these hours.
 *When submitting a request for the purchase of additional credits one of the following signed pieces of evidence will be required for each credit requested:
  • Contract with agreed commissioning date;
  • Commissioning certificate;
  • Electrical test certificate;
  • Building control certificate; or
  • Building Regulations compliance through Competent Persons Scheme.

Other evidence that is considered acceptable

  • Final invoice with system details, location and proof of payment.

Daily communications will be sent to the installer community with a reminder of the deadlines. If you unsubscribe from the email then you will no longer receive any further reminders.

If you are a trade association, please inform your members of this communication.
