Update to heat pump standards published

MCS has today published updates to MIS 3005 and MCS 007.

As a result gas absorption heat pumps are now covered by the MCS requirements. Gas absorption heat pumps extract heat from the air, ground or water, using a generator-absorber heat exchange cycle -powered by natural gas or LPG. All heat pumps use the refrigeration cycle and in GAHPs the working fluid is an ammonia/water solution. The ammonia acts as the refrigerant and the water acts as an absorber.

As soon as the first gas absorption heat pumps gain MCS product certification the details will be added to the product listing page on the MCS website here.

In addition the following changes have been made to the heat pump standards:

  • A revision to clause 4.2.18 of MIS 3005 increasing the pumping power limit to 3% from 2.5%.
  • A revision to MCS 007 referencing the latest release of BS EN 14511.
