About MCS

MCS is a mark of quality and demonstrates
compliance to industry standards that companies
strive to meet. It highlights to consumers that
companies are able to consistently install or
manufacture to the highest quality every time.

Today DECC has published an update to the RHI regulations, ensuring the regulations now reference the latest heat technology standards (heat pumps, biomass and solar thermal), which were updated on  6th May 2015.

For details on the changes brought about by these regulations, along with a summary document, can be found by following the links below:

MCS will be partnering with the Heating & Renewables Roadshow 2015 to raise awareness of the Scheme and to provide an overview and update to new and existing MCS contractors.

Alongside MCS, further sessions will be presented by knowledge partners, existing suppliers and trade associations with keynote sessions reserved for Government departments such as DECC and Ofgem.

As you may be aware the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has been in the process of establishing the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Charitable Foundation (MCS CF).

The aim of the MCS CF is to provide both confidence and trust in renewable energy and low carbon technologies and those providing and maintaining it, with a particular focus on consumer and environmental protection.

In establishing the foundation we will register the new charity with the Charity Commission by the end of August 2015. In preparation for this registration, the MCS CF are looking to appoint six Trustees to the Board of the Charitable Foundation.

MCS has today updated a number of installation and product standards. The changes to the standards include:

  • Update to the definitions in all standards to align with a review undertaken by the Standards Management Group
  • Update to section 8 in all installation standards to clarify the requirements of this section
  • A significant update to the heat pump standards to comply with the Energy related Products Directive. We have also attached an email on the heat pump updates which has been sent to installers and manufacturers. This includes further information on the implementation timescales.

Survey on solar thermal design course

A training provider in North East England (Narec Distributed Energy) is seeking industry views on a design course for solar thermal systems.

MCS has today published an update to MCS 017 which is the product standard for Bespoke Building Integrated Photovoltaic Products (BBIPV). Please visit the product standards page for a copy of the standard - link here.

The Department of Energy and Climate (DECC) has issued a call for evidence to seek information and evidence to inform the development of policy to amend regulations to allow additional financing options into the domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI).
