On 7th February 2018, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) laid regulations to implement reforms to both the Domestic and Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) schemes before Parliament. The changes to the schemes have successfully passed through the parliamentary process and come into force today.

MCS would like to inform their stakeholders that the Competency Checker Tool is due to cease today, 30th April 2018.
Establishing the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) as independent of government is aligned with the government’s strategy of enabling the renewables market to be sustainable in the long-term.
We are pleased to announce that this process is now complete. The MCS has been made independent of government. This took place on April 25th, 2018.
The MCS Steering Group has taken the decision to formally close the Experienced Workers Route (EWR) Pilot. The feedback from the Pilot will be reviewed to consider if such an approach to demonstrating competency adds value to industry. The Experienced Workers Route remains as a method for MCS Contractors to demonstrate competency working with their Certification Body (rather than a third-party assessor).
On 28th March 2018 a change to the MCS Installation Database (MID) will be implemented to bring MCS certificates in line with incoming changes to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). This means that some additional questions will appear in the MID, when generating (and amending) MCS certificates. The MCS Installation Database (MID) will be undergoing planned maintenance and will be unavailable during the times stated below:
Friday 23/03/2018 from 22:00 until 05:00.
Saturday 14/04/2018 from 03:00 until 05:00.
Please do not try to access the database during this time as you will be unable to generate certificates and it is unlikely that any MCS certificates will be sent out.

MCS has today published an updated version of MCS 012 (Product Certification Scheme Requirements – Pitched Roof Installation Kits – Issue 2.2), which will become mandatory for all certified MCS 012 products from 10th April 2018.
