On 13 June 2014 the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 came into force. These regulations make significant changes to the consumer protection legislation governing businesses that agree contracts with domestic consumers in the home. The regulations will replace the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 and the Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work (Doorstep Selling) Regulations 2008. They implement the EU Consumer Rights Directive (CRD) adopted in 2011.
MCS is a mark of quality and demonstrates compliance to industry standards that companies strive to meet. It highlights to consumers that companies are able to consistently install or manufacture to the highest quality every time.
MCS has today launched its process for obtaining MCS certificates for consumers whose MCS installation companies have ceased trading or are no longer MCS certified. The process and checklist for applicants requesting a copy of the MCS certificate can be found here. Please read the information below for further guidance.
MCS 001 (Installer Certification Scheme Requirements) has been released for public consultation.
Permitted development rights for wind turbines and air source heat pumps on domestic properties were introduced in December 2011. They include a requirement to comply with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Planning Standards which specifies a noise limit of 42 decibels. The Government response to the consultation made a commitment to review the appropriateness of this noise limit after one year. In Spring 2013 the Department completed this review.
