FAQ – Per Installation Fee Increase

Following previous communication, the MCS Steering Group met on 5th December 2017 and agreed an increase of the per installation fee to £30 to take place on or as soon as practicable after 1st March 2018. Post-novation, the MCSSCo Board of Directors unanimously supported this decision.
This fee was agreed as the minimum increase necessary to allow the Scheme to function with a balanced budget.

The below FAQs provide information for MCS Contractors on the increase of the per installation fee.

For MCS to be sustainable and continuously improve its processes and systems, the Scheme needs to raise the installation fee from £15 to £30.  The increase will take effect on 3rd September 2018. The annual Installer Registration fee (£55/annum as of 22nd September 2017) remains unaffected.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has been running for 11 years. One key milestone was the registration of the millionth MCS contractors in 2016. Independent third-party certification, has contributed to the growth of the microgeneration sector and has enabled consumers to access renewable subsidies with confidence. The low installation fees have not been raised during the Scheme’s lifetime. The resulting stability has assisted the sector to establish itself and become commercially successful.

Following a recent review of the previously postponed fee increase implementation, there are currently no plans to introduce a credit purchasing cap. However, as previously highlighted, the MCS Administrator will monitor credit purchasing activity and a capping system may be introduced before the fee increase if credit stockpiling is identified.

The Installation Fee increase will take place on 3rd September 2018. The MID will be down from 09:30 to 13:30 for implementation. A communication will be issued once completed. Please do not attempt to log in to the MID until you are notified that the fee increase implementation is complete.

Any pre-purchased credits can be used in the same way.

The process for credits to be purchased will stay the same.

Renewal of your registration will be due on the date that it was paid last year.

If your renewal fell between the 30th August and 22nd September 2017 the annual installer fee would have been £110.

The annual installer registration fee was reduced in September 2017. If you paid the higher level in 2017, the reduced fee will be applied at your next renewal.

Please speak to your Certification Body if you wish to leave the Scheme.

Once you have been issued your new MID account by the new Certification Body you are registering with, please email mcs@gemserv.com and request to transfer credits available in your old account to your new account.

Please inform your Certification Body. Your Certification Body will then inform MCS of any company name changes and the credits will remain in your user account if there is no change to your certification number. If your certification number changes, you will need to request to transfer credits to your new account.

There is no minimum time required to be on the Scheme to qualify for the installer fee reduction. The lower installer fee applies for all renewals from the 22nd September 2017 onwards.
